Voyageurs 2025 Day04
It was a relatively short ride today. After a short time we
entered North Dakota and were treated to a large sign encouraging
people to "Share the Road with Motorcycles" which we appreciated. There
were lots of similar signs in Montana but we seemed to always come up
on them too quickly to get a picture.
Shortly after entering
North Dakota we visited the Painted Canyon Visitor Center in the South
section of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. There was a gift shop,
restrooms and an overlook of the Painted Canyon but no real access to
the park. There is an out and back road in the park but you need to
enter at Medora which we had already passed. We drove that road several
years ago and encountered lots of bison as well as other wildlife -
definitely worth the ride.
From there we road to the
Enchanted Highway which is a 32 mile section of road from I-94 to
Regent, ND. Along the road are 8 huge metal sculptures. I don't know if
we would have come all the way from Washington state just to see the
highway and the sculptures but, since we were here anyway, they were
worth the stop - pretty impressive. Other than the sculptures, the only
other interesting thing was encountering a huge thrasher or harvester
of some kind that took both lanes of the two lane road. We actually had
to pull off the road to let him pass.
After that we headed
directly to Mike and Karin's home having lost another hour entering the
Central Timezone. We plan to visit them, rest up a few days and then
head for Voyageurs National Park by way of Bemidji Minnesota.
